Milan will be the European Capital of Sport for 2009. The prize was awarded to the city of Milan in Stuttgart, by the members of the European Capitals of Sport Association. Dublin was also in the running for the award; the decision was taken after a series of selection procedures. The result puts Milan on a par with cities such as Madrid, Stuttgart, Copenhagen and others which received the prize in previous years.
