Models, make-up, and heels oh my! Blasting music, top editors, and celebrities; it is no other event than Milan’s fashion week. And past security, this glamorous world only seen on television unfolds itself like a plush velvet red carpet. Milan is one of the four fashion sister cities along with New York, London and Paris; and host to spear headers of the industry during this week long display of beautiful clothing. Typically, though we secretly envy them, the general public scowls at fashion officials who are often stereotyped as high strung, condescending, and impatient. Shockingly, they aren’t half bad, at least the ones that were waving enthusiastically at desperate fans.

The star of Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008) was a surprisingly sweet celeb. A group of about fifteen waited anxiously outside of the show, a number that seemed like a mob as they waited around her personal Mercedes Benz with their digital cameras drawn. Freida shuffled quickly into the car where her chauffer was, impatiently no doubt, waiting to drive her to the next show. A group of college girls were gesturing “we love you” through Freida’s window when she stopped her driver and got out of the shiny black Benz to sign autographs. For a breath taking five minutes, this successful Indian model in all her splendor, signed autograph after autograph (including fan’s names), calmly got back in the Benz, and drove off into the afternoon wind.

Thursday’s Frankie Morello show featured the famous Ford model. This African American and Korean Los Angeles resident was bright eyed and bubbly backstage. When exiting, Chanel enthusiastically posed for a picture and joked about all the face powder that ended up in her dark brown hair. As she walked away, the tattoo on the back of her neck (a wire hanger with “Chanel Iman” printed below in all caps) followed the girlish sway of her head while she chatted with a very handsome gentleman named Paolo. Obviously the people who claim she is big headed and conceited never met her or experienced her child like smile up close and personal.
