Lord Michael Bates, walking from Greece to London

On 17 October 2011, the United Nations unanimously voted a resolution proposed by the UK Government to support the Olympic Truce. This has raised the profile of the Walk For Truce on which Lord Michael Bates – who decided to walk the long distance from Olympia to London – is currently engaged.

The purpose of Lord Bates’s Walk for Truce, which is totally self-funded, is to call upon all signatory nations to pursue initiatives for peace and reconciliation in the spirit of the ancient games.

Lord Bates was in Milan on 20 October 2011.

The event and the walk through the city was attended by many people of different nationalities, who accompanied Lord Bates in his first mile through the city.

The Walk for Truce now continues, and after visiting various Italian cities, the next stop will be Switzerland. Lord Bates expects to reach London next spring.
